RIGHT! Free album! Loads of stuff! Have some!

18th January, 2010

That's enough procrastinating. I've been living here in Auckland for a bit over a month now, it's time to stop using "settling in" as an excuse. Stuff better be getting done. By me. Watch this space.

Now, more importantly, free songs!

To be more specific, the whole Awesome Meat Grenade Flies South album. It's been over a year since I made it, quite a few people bought it, but I don't want to waste time trying to wring more money out of it, and I just want people to be able to have fun with and enjoy my music.

So thank you very much to all the people who bought it, and I hope the cover and sleeve illustrations still bring enjoyment. And to the rest of you? Piracy time!

ALSO you wonderful internet people should download the finished half-or-thereabouts of the new album, if you haven't already. And there's some new, unheard ones!

Disappointment (with consolations!)

23rd October, 2009

Warning: tl;dr ahead!

Some of you may have guessed, by my relentless inactivity on the intarwubs of late, that I've been busy with non-music-related stuff over the last couple of months. And such is the case. I regret to announce: WATCH OUT FOR THAT CONCEPT ALBUM will not be making an appearance at Armageddon this week, as it remains only a little over half-finished.

However, while apologetic over letting you all down somewhat, I can't profess to any real despair. You see, in those couple of non-music-related months, I've managed to get myself engaged. I'm rather chuffed about that. And no less, to a lovely lady who I met while shamelessly flaunting my aural wares at last year's expo. (So you can all feel assured that I'm not going to let my creative drive slip away now that I'm no longer bitter and alone. It would be blatant false advertising.) If you see me and I'm shooting tiny rainbows from my molars, don't be alarmed, I'm just obnoxiously happy at present.

So I'm currently gearing up to move to Auckland at some point before the new year. And thus, once all the house-moving panic subsides, and I feel established again, I solemnly swear to finish the album (because both I and my dear lady are still much enthused about it) and start actually communicating with the internet at large once more, answering my messages properly and all that jazz.

As some solid token of my sincerity, here's a finished album track - the opening track, in fact - for you all to download and enjoy.

Prelude For Zygote And Cyclotron

Although I planned to just put up a few tracks as teasers and then sell the album in hardcopy, I don't feel much like charging money for my music at the moment, to be honest; I consume a lot of music without paying a cent, and ethically I feel quite at ease with that, but in a similar spirit I'd like to give something of my own in return. So I'm going to upload each new album track as I finish it, and, when I have a moment to in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to upload the entirety of the South For The Winter album for free as well. Share it about! Copy it as gratuitously as you wish (non-commercially and with credit of authorship given, etc., etc., of course) and I hope it raises some smiles.

(If anyone would like a hard-copy of either album at some point in the future, with nice protective plastic-case-thing and fairly sweet cover art, I'll charge a few dollars to cover postage and/or production costs, but I'll keep it pretty low. I'd almost like to actively avoid profit at the moment. It's too boring.)

I will in fact be present at Auckland Armageddon, if anyone would like to say hello, but just for Monday the 26th. I won't be at a stall this year, but seeing as (at my fiancee's insistence) I've opted to spend the day roaming the building in a pretty dress instead, I should be fairly noticeable in the... Oh, wait. Cosplayers everywhere. Bollocks. Well, I'll just have to be extra-obnoxiously energetic to remain visible.

Hope to see you there.

I Won't Grow Old That Way

27th August, 2009

New song. Have a listen!

An ironic (but slightly not) take on the arrogance of youth, this song is the fourth track from the album (because track 4 is the "teenager" track of an album, relatively speaking.) I'd like to dedicate it, with characteristic pretentiousness, to everyone who's ever been mad at their favourite band.

Chimeras is finished now, too, if you'd like to hear the final version. Apropos of the general lyrical gist of I Won't Grow Old That Way, I'd be kind of interested to see whether or not people like the finished Chimeras better than the demo I put up before. :)

And download Scubagoth, you fooools, or the maritime authorities win.

Toodle-pip, chaps and chap-ettes.

Scubagoth (featuring Matthew Wills) and other things

8th August, 2009

Latest collaboration with Matt, about a troubled young man who lives (depite his best efforts to do otherwise) under the ocean. We've all been there, folks. It's whaleicious! Eat it. Eat it now.

And furthermore, Chimeras has been revised a little, with some scruffy cardboard-box percussion to give it more of the lo-fi vibe I originally intended. Have a listen. This is probably the version that'll end up on the album. My flatmate is getting it stuck in his head, which I think is a good sign.

Lastly, I'm thinking of deleting my blog, because I just don't go for Blogspot's interface, and I never get round to updating it. I'll change the links properly soon, but in the meantime, anyone who might happen to want to read my musings (and a lot of bad words I say frequently) - or look at all my silly pictures that I draw with my hands - should come to my DeviantArt page. I update it a bit more often, and you can leave comments and things like that, if you have any things that you want me to know. I like to be knowing things.

Signin' off. Cheerio and all that.

And here's some delicious proof. Try some.

WATCH OUT FOR THAT CONCEPT ALBUM

3rd June, 2009

Sorry for lack of updates, all. I took a break to get a bit more of my life written, and now that's done, I'm just writing more songs again. :)

The new album is now very much under way (I just finished another two songs, and they're ready to be recorded as soon as I'm in a recordin' mood.) The title, as above, is WATCH OUT FOR THAT CONCEPT ALBUM. It now comprises fifteen songs in total. (That's 15.38% up from the last album, and that's without considering that tracks 1 and 8 on "Flies South" weren't quite songs.)

At some point in the next little while I shall feel obliged to pre-release a track as a sneak preview. Watch this space. Avidly.

Now, it's coming up five a.m., which is a little past even my bedtime, so sleep well, everyone.

Back!

14th March, 2009

Finally got the site back up. It vanished one day when my free-hosting people decided they didn't do free-hosting any more. I know, I know, you get what you pay for. Some warning would have been nice, though. Apologies to those who came here and found nothing.

So I've acquired a slightly more established host (cheers!) and hopefully everything will piece itself back together.

More importantly, I'm currently writing (and beginning to record) the next album, which will be available at Auckland Armageddon in October, as per my standard practice. As it stands at present, it will be a concept-album-ish, comprising fourteen songs that are loosely tied together thematically. The tracklist may warp and wobble a bit over the next few months, but here's some song titles to expect:

The Vortex

The Sun Is A Giant Fiery Ball Of Exploding Death

I'm From The Future

Kierkegaard's Reel

Furthermore, I can confirm that there will be, at least, a mention of owls on this record.

And finally, I've put all the songs-I-did-with-Murk up for download. Enjoy 'em!

Gently down the bitstream

25th November, 2008

I've bowed to peer pressure and gotten a Myspace. I'm sorry. Really.

You can find it here. It's pretty sparse, it's mainly just so all you busy web people can have the option to stream songs, as opposed to downloading the whole file.

Hurry on over, because I've put up a couple of tracks that aren't currently available here! You will like them.

FUNCTIONALITY!

1st November, 2008

We are all up and running! HOW IS A FEELING?

The Downloads section is now replete with free songs! If I were you, I'd download all of them, very quickly, and listen to them while rocking backwards and forwards and smiling. Wouldn't that be nice?

Fondest regards.

Inauguratering

22nd October, 2008

Hello all!

Welcome to the official website of Awesome Meat Grenade, musical twit extraordinaire. We (the royal "we") are still building this site, so many features are regrettably still unavailable. But, if you bought or otherwise obtained Our album and would like to, say, find out what books We read as a child, or learn the odd patch of lyrics you couldn't make out on the recording, We can accommodate your needs.

Bazonka.
